Punta Gaviota
La Gomera · Spain
Punta Gaviota is a headland on La Gomera's southern coast where volcanic boulders tumble down to a sandy bottom at 25 m, creating natural channels and overhangs that concentrate marine life year-round. Large shoals of Atlantic barracuda circle the point in tight spiralling formations, while green and loggerhead turtles graze on the algae-covered rocks. The site is also one of the most reliable spots in the Canaries for close encounters with resting angel sharks on the sand between boulders.
