Underwater at Tyre Reef Wall

Tyre Reef Wall

Dive site

South of Tyre, the coastline drops away in a series of stepped walls to 40 metres, festooned with red and yellow sponges and patchy gorgonian growth. The wall runs parallel to a Phoenician-era causeway that Alexander the Great extended in 332 BCE — its stone blocks are visible on the seafloor beginning at 6 metres. Amberjack and Mediterranean barracuda school in open water off the wall edge; large grouper occupy ledges at depth. This is Lebanon's most complete wall dive and one of the few sites served regularly by local dive operators.
