Dogtooth tuna are powerful open-water apex predators that use channels like Kuredu Express as ambush points, waiting at current corners for the rushing water to deliver stunned or disoriented prey fish. Their muscular, streamlined bodies generate explosive bursts of speed exceeding 70 km/h, making them one of the most formidable pelagic hunters on tropical reefs. Their presence in channel systems indicates high prey fish abundance and healthy reef productivity upstream.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
