Houshi Fringing Reef
Little Liuqiu Island · Taiwan
The Houshi Fringing Reef wraps around the southern end of Little Liuqiu and is the island's most extensive dive area, with a continuous coral terrace beginning in 4 meters and stepping down through a series of ledges to 22 meters of coarse sand. Turtles are again ubiquitous, but the additional depth and greater structural complexity bring in a richer assemblage of reef fish including surgeonfish, parrotfish, and schools of glassfish sheltering under table corals. The exposed southern position means current can run strongly in the afternoons, making morning dives the preferred choice.
