Svolvær Wall
Lofoten Islands · Norway
Svolvær Wall is a dramatic vertical drop-off just minutes from Lofoten's largest town, descending from 5 metres to well over 50 metres in a sheer face encrusted with soft corals, sponges, and anemones that turn the rock into a tapestry of orange, white, and violet. The wall is a stronghold for the Lofoten sea slug community and hosts several species of rockfish that drift motionlessly in the current, camouflaged against the encrusting fauna. Harbour seals regularly visit the upper reef and are accustomed to divers, often descending alongside dive groups with evident curiosity.
