Belongas Bay
Lombok · Indonesia
Belongas Bay on Lombok's south coast is one of Indonesia's premier pelagic dive destinations, most famous for the Magnet — a submerged pinnacle at 25 to 40 metres where strong upwellings from the Indian Ocean concentrate hammerhead sharks, oceanic whitetip sharks, and thresher sharks in numbers rarely seen elsewhere in the country. The current is powerful and the site is recommended for experienced divers only, but the reward is extraordinary: schools of hammerheads passing in formation through the blue, often accompanied by silvertip sharks and schools of barracuda.
