Stella Maris Reef
Long Island · Bahamas
Stella Maris Reef is a healthy coral garden in the north of Long Island, named after the historic dive resort that has operated here since the 1960s and helped establish Long Island diving. Wide coral heads of brain coral, star coral, and elkhorn shelter the shallows, while the outer reef slopes gently to 18 metres before giving way to a sandy rubble plain patrolled by stingrays. The site is sheltered from northeast swells making it diveable on most days and ideal for photographers hunting wide-angle reef scenes.
