Whale sharks follow the plankton bloom that develops along Danzante's channel from late June through October, surface-feeding within snorkelling and shallow-dive range. The protected waters of the national park mean boat traffic is controlled, so encounters are unhurried and divers can maintain respectful distance without competing with other boats. Individuals tracked here range from 5 to 9 m, suggesting a mix of juveniles and subadults using the Gulf as a seasonal feeding ground.
