Scalloped hammerheads visit El Banco seamount in groups of 10 to 40 individuals, circling the upcurrent face at depths between 20 and 35 meters where the cleaning station activity is concentrated. They are more reliably encountered during the dry season months of December through April when cooler, cleaner water increases visibility and concentrates prey around the seamount. Their presence at this remote seamount underscores the ecological importance of the Los Testigos submarine plateau as a pelagic aggregation point.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
