Green morays of exceptional size inhabit the rubble and coral base of the North Channel walls, some individuals reaching 2 meters or more in a habitat with no predation pressure from fishing. They hunt actively during current-assisted tides and rest in crevices during slack periods, their olive-green mucus coating giving them a distinctive color against the orange sponge walls. Multiple morays sharing the same boulder cluster suggest a high-density, food-rich environment typical of undisturbed reef systems.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
