Underwater at Lysefjord Wall

Lysefjord Wall

Lysefjord / Stavanger · Norway

The inner Lysefjord wall is where the granite cliff that rises to Preikestolen above continues straight down below the surface. The wall is blanketed in dead man's fingers soft corals — white and orange colonies stacked on every ledge — interspersed with large plumose anemones and cup corals. Wolf fish occupy the deeper overhangs, often resting in pairs. The absence of boat traffic and the sheltered nature of the inner fjord keep the water very calm, and the cliff walls block wind, making this one of Norway's most accessible cold-water wall dives despite its remote appearance.
