Underwater at Preikestolen Drop

Preikestolen Drop

Lysefjord / Stavanger · Norway

Directly below Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), the fjord floor is 422 metres below the famous cliff ledge. The dive site works the upper section of this sheer underwater cliff face, which mirrors the vertical drama above the surface. Visibility is at its peak here in winter and early spring when cold freshwater melt is minimal, and the depth provides a thermocline-free dive in high summer. Juvenile wolffish are regularly spotted sheltering in crevices along the wall, and the density of Metridium anemones — standing 30 to 40 centimetres tall — is among the highest recorded in any Norwegian fjord.
