Stavanger Harbour Wrecks
Lysefjord / Stavanger · Norway
The approaches to Stavanger harbour contain several accessible wrecks from World War II and the early oil era, sitting in 18 to 35 metres. The most visited is a fishing vessel resting upright on a sandy bottom, its hull now encrusted with soft corals and mussels. Visibility is lower than the open fjord but the wreck offers a controlled environment for exploring cabins, holds, and the propeller, all colonised by nudibranchs and gobies. Atlantic cod hover around the bow in large numbers, and the wrecks attract Norway's characteristic cold-water sponge life that transforms metal into a living reef over decades.
