Kontiki Reef
Mactan Island · Philippines
A sloping rubble-and-hard-coral reef running from 5 m down to around 28 m off the southern tip of Mactan, Kontiki is one of the island's most reliable coral garden dives for mixed-level groups. Healthy Acropora tables and massive Porites bommies shelter an abundance of reef fish — lionfish, frogfish, and leaf scorpionfish are consistent finds for macro photographers, while the sand channels between bommies produce flamboyant cuttlefish and blue-ringed octopus. Visibility is excellent outside the rainy season and currents are predictably mild, making it a favourite for check-out dives and underwater photography courses.
