Underwater at Planet Rock

Planet Rock

Madang · Papua New Guinea

Planet Rock is a submerged pinnacle that rises from 50 metres to about 6 metres below the surface and sits in open water just beyond the lagoon, exposed to mild current that brings in fish in extraordinary numbers. The rock is blanketed in sea fans and black coral at depth, with dense schooling fish at mid-water — barracuda, trevally and batfish circle the summit in loose formations. Grey reef sharks cruise the deeper flanks, and the sheer drop from the pinnacle to the sandy floor gives the site a dramatic sense of open water exposure. This is Madang's best site for large fish encounters alongside its world-class soft coral coverage.
