Steve's Bommie
Madang · Papua New Guinea
Steve's Bommie is Madang's signature macro site, a large coral head rising from 25 metres to within a few metres of the surface and absolutely festooned with life at every depth. This is one of the best sites in PNG to find mandarinfish — at dusk, divers wait quietly among the rubble patches at the base of the bommie for the males and females to rise briefly for their courtship display. During daylight hours the bommie delivers pygmy seahorses on sea fans, hairy ghost pipefish in the rubble, ribbon eels in crevices and more species of nudibranch than most divers can identify. The coral health here is exceptional.
