HMS Maori

Malta · Malta

The Tribal-class destroyer HMS Maori was bombed in Valletta's Grand Harbour in February 1942 and lies in two main sections in 14 m of water off Fort St Elmo. The bow section sits upright at 14 m while the stern is inverted; the wreck is heavily colonised by sea fans, sponges, scorpionfish, and large grouper. The intact gun mountings and torpedo tubes make it one of Malta's most photogenic WWII wrecks, accessible to Open Water divers.
