Um el Faroud
Malta · Malta
The 109 m Libyan oil tanker Um el Faroud was deliberately sunk as an artificial reef off Wied iz-Zurrieq in 1998 after a gas explosion killed nine workers during refit. She lies on her port side with the bow at 18 m and the keel at 36 m, offering swim-throughs from the engine room to the bridge. Barracuda school above the hull, moray eels occupy every pipe run, and the propeller at depth is one of the most dramatic single photo subjects in Maltese waters.
