Siladen Island
Manado · Indonesia
A small, forested island on the northeastern edge of Bunaken National Marine Park, Siladen is the region's premier macro destination with rubble slopes and coral gardens teeming with nudibranchs, ghost pipefish, and at least two species of pygmy seahorse. Its protected lagoon hosts nightly congregations of mandarinfish performing their courtship display just after sunset. The walls on the seaward side offer a dramatic contrast, dropping steeply through sea fan gardens that attract barracuda schools and the occasional thresher shark.
