Creole Wrasse

Clepticus parrae

Sighting evidence at Black Coral Garden, María la Gorda

Enormous shoals of several thousand individuals sweep the upper wall edge at 15 to 25 m, feeding on zooplankton advected in from open water. Their vivid purple-and-yellow juveniles school tightly around large sponges while adults range freely above the reef lip. This site's calm conditions concentrate them in densities rarely seen elsewhere in Cuba.

How is this calculated?
