Spotted eagle rays use the thermocline inside The Crevice as a resting and orientation layer, hovering nearly motionless with wings spread wide in the reduced current while the temperature differential delivers a steady supply of oxygen-rich cool water across their gills. Encounters inside the slot itself are one of the most distinctive features of this site — nowhere else in Guam can a diver be inside a chimney with eagle rays at arm's length.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
