Aquarium Bay's grouper population is among the most approachable on the Turkish coast, with several large resident individuals that have been observed by divers for multiple seasons. They occupy specific ledge territories and are remarkably tolerant of careful divers, allowing close observation of their feeding and social behaviour. Their thick-set bodies and distinctive blotched patterning make them unmistakable as they drift from shadow to shadow along the reef wall.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
