European Bream

Sparus aurata

Sighting evidence at English Harbour Wreck, Marmaris

Gilthead seabream are among the most elegant visitors to the English Harbour wreck, their gold-tinged flanks and distinctive forehead stripe distinguishing them from the other bream species that school around the hull. They are omnivorous, feeding on molluscs and crustaceans in the sandy areas adjacent to the wreck before retreating to the structure to rest. Schools of 20 to 50 individuals are routine and provide a spectacular framing for wide-angle wreck photography.
