Tiger Pass — Ua Huka

Dive site

A narrow channel between Ua Huka and a small satellite islet funnels current and attracts tiger sharks that patrol the sandy bottom at 10 to 25 metres. One to four individuals are reliably present year-round, likely drawn by the resident population of green turtles that nest on adjacent beaches. The channel walls are covered in large sea fans and black coral bushes, and Napoleon wrasse up to 1.5 metres are frequently encountered. The site is suitable for advanced divers comfortable with the presence of large sharks in current; it is one of the few reliably tiger-shark sites in French Polynesia.
