Cap Morgiou Wall
Marseille Calanques · France
Cap Morgiou's eastern wall descends in clean limestone steps from 8 m to beyond 60 m, draped in gorgonian sea fans and sponge gardens that catch the current sweeping around the headland. Brown grouper patrol the upper terrace with the unhurried confidence of animals that have never been speared, and schools of saddled bream spiral in the blue water above. This is the dive that introduced Jacques Cousteau to the Calanques, and the biological richness remains remarkable.
