Whitetip reef sharks rest in loose aggregations inside the Nagato's gun turrets and hull cavities during daylight hours, emerging at dusk to hunt cooperatively in packs through the wreck's interior corridors. Unlike most sharks, they can pump water over their gills while stationary, allowing extended rest periods — their nocturnal pack-hunting of reef fish and octopus is among the most coordinated predatory behavior seen in sharks.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
