Coral Gardens
Maui · United States
Coral Gardens at Honolua Bay is a shallow, sheltered snorkel and dive site on Maui's north-west coast where branching coral heads form a labyrinthine garden that sustains one of the highest reef fish diversities in Hawaii. Spinner dolphins frequently enter the bay to rest and socialise in the morning, and patient divers who descend slowly and hover neutrally can spend extended time among resting pods. The site's protected status as part of the Honolua-Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District means coral coverage and fish biomass are measurably higher than at comparable unprotected sites.
