Molokini Crater

Maui · United States

Molokini is the eroded rim of a submerged volcanic caldera rising from 90 metres to just break the surface, forming a protected crescent that shelters one of Hawaii's most pristine reef systems. The crater's interior offers gin-clear visibility exceeding 30 metres on most days and harbours endemic Hawaiian species found nowhere else on earth, including the endemic potter's angelfish and the endemic striped convict tang. Its back wall, plunging vertically to over 60 metres, is a completely different ecosystem of black coral and pelagic encounters.
