La Vigie
Mayotte · France
A prominent coral pinnacle on the eastern inner lagoon that acts as a cleaning station for large pelagics. Whale sharks are sighted here year-round, most frequently between October and March. The pinnacle tops out at 5 m and its base spreads to 30 m, with whip corals, sea fans, and an impressive concentration of barracuda. Manta rays visit the cleaning station on the pinnacle top, hovering while cleaner wrasse attend them — one of the most reliably observed manta encounters in the western Indian Ocean.
