Shark Cave
Mergui Archipelago · Myanmar
A shallow limestone cavern system on the southern flank of one of the Mergui karst islands, opening to the reef at 8 m and penetrating roughly 25 m into the rock. The cave interior is a resting ground for whitetip reef sharks — up to 15 individuals have been observed stacked along the sandy cave floor in a single dive — alongside nurse sharks and resting guitar sharks. Outside the cave entrance, a coral garden in 5 to 20 m supports prolific hard and soft coral with high fish diversity. The site requires no cave certification as it is a cavern dive with natural light throughout, but a torch is recommended.
