Western Rocky
Mergui Archipelago · Myanmar
An exposed granite pinnacle system on the western edge of the Mergui Archipelago, exposed to full Andaman swell and reliably swept by strong currents. This is the site most consistently associated with scalloped hammerhead shark schools in Myanmar: aggregations of 20 to 80 individuals have been documented on the deep northwest face between January and April, rising from 35 m to 20 m on the morning current. Whale sharks are encountered here from March to May, often feeding on plankton concentrated by upwellings around the pinnacle. Grey reef sharks and silvertip sharks maintain a year-round presence. Experienced drift divers only.
