Underwater at Silvertip Bank

Silvertip Bank

Mergui Archipelago · Myanmar

Silvertip Bank is a remote seamount rising from 50 meters in the western Mergui Archipelago, named for the silvertip sharks that patrol its upper plateau in numbers rarely matched in Southeast Asia — groups of 8 to 15 individuals are reliably encountered during the November through March liveaboard season. The submerged pinnacle tops out at 18 meters, its crest blanketed in pristine hard coral almost untouched by human impact, and the descending walls present sea fans exceeding 2 meters in diameter alongside schooling hammerhead sharks during peak season from December through February. Liveaboard-only access keeps the site in immaculate condition.
