Samarai Island Reef
Milne Bay — Samarai & China Strait · Papua New Guinea
Fringing reef surrounding the historic island of Samarai at the tip of Milne Bay province. Shallow coral gardens give way to a sloping wall harbouring pygmy seahorses in gorgonian fans, leaf scorpionfish on rubble, and small aggregations of black-tip reef sharks patrolling the outer edge. Moderate current on the outgoing tide creates a mild drift.
