Lighthouse Bommie
Minicoy Island · India
Directly below Minicoy's 1885 British-built lighthouse — still operational and the second-tallest in Asia — a coral pinnacle rises from 28 metres to 6 metres below the surface, completely detached from the main reef. The bommie is encrusted with sea fans and black coral on its deeper faces and soft corals higher up. Nurse sharks rest in the overhangs; grey reef sharks orbit in the blue. The lighthouse overhead serves as an effective surface reference and the dive is an easy shore jump, making this the most accessible quality site on the island.
