West Lagoon Reef
Minicoy Island · India
Inside Minicoy's horseshoe lagoon, the reef flat shelves gently from 1 metre to 15 metres with some of the most intact shallow-water corals in India. Acropora tables are the dominant structure and they shelter an astonishing density of small reef fish — damsels, anthias, wrasse, and butterflyfish layer through every coral head. Green turtles rest and forage here daily. The calm, protected water makes this the best site for new divers and underwater photographers working with natural light.
