Secret Garden
Mirissa · Sri Lanka
A sheltered rocky outcrop east of Mirissa headland where barnacled boulders and coralline rubble give way to an unexpectedly rich macro ecosystem packed with pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, and ghost pipefish. The site is rarely visited compared to the whale-watching grounds, creating a calm intimacy perfect for slow, methodical macro photography at depths of 8 to 22 metres. Night dives here reveal a completely different cast — Spanish dancer nudibranchs, hunting octopuses, and the glow of bioluminescent plankton in the dark water.
