Large Napoleon wrasse — locally called humphead wrasse — patrol the deeper outer slopes of Yabiji, sometimes in pairs, feeding on echinoderms and hard corals. They are among the oldest fish on the reef, with individuals potentially exceeding 30 years, and their large size and slow reproduction make them highly sensitive to overfishing. Seeing them here is a direct signal of the reef's protection status.

Humphead Wrasse is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
