Itsamia Turtle Reef
Moheli Marine Park · Comoros
Itsamia on Moheli's northern coast hosts the largest documented green turtle nesting colony in the Comoros, and the adjacent reef reflects that abundance — turtle encounters on every dive are nearly guaranteed. The community conservation program at Itsamia has protected the beach and surrounding marine area for decades, resulting in one of the highest turtle densities in the western Indian Ocean. The reef itself is a broad, gently sloping structure with dense hard coral gardens, abundant reef fish, and occasional dolphin passes in the blue. Depth is accessible for all certification levels, and the absence of strong currents makes it ideal for underwater photography.
