Underwater at Cayo Peraza Turtle Pasture

Cayo Peraza Turtle Pasture

Dive site

A wide seagrass meadow behind the cay transitions into patch reefs and isolated coral bommies — a habitat mosaic that attracts every sea turtle the park holds. Green turtles graze the grass in groups of three or four at times. Hawksbills move between bommies hunting sponges. The shallow depth and calm conditions make this the ideal site for photographers wanting unhurried wide-angle compositions. Spotted eagle rays cross the flat in the morning hours and conch density in the seagrass is among the highest recorded in Venezuela.
