Underwater at Cayo Sal Wall

Cayo Sal Wall

Dive site

A genuine Caribbean wall that drops from a coral-capped lip at 12 metres into the blue. The upper reef is dense with sea fans and black coral bushes; the wall face is plastered in orange and yellow encrusting sponges that give it a vivid palette rarely matched in the region. Green and hawksbill turtles work the wall face hunting sponges, while southern stingrays rest on the sandy channel floor below. Long-spined sea urchins signal the health of this reef — they are abundant, a sure sign of low fishing pressure and algae control doing its job.
