Underwater at Punta Brava Shark Point

Punta Brava Shark Point

Dive site

A pronounced headland with strong tidal exchange creates a focal point for Caribbean reef sharks and the occasional bull shark passing through the gulf. The reef structure is textbook — spur-and-groove coral ridges with sandy gullies between — and the current brings planktivores to the tips of the spurs while predators patrol the grooves. Moray eels are prolific here, including the large green moray that can exceed 2 metres. Yellowtail snappers aggregate in such numbers that visibility can appear to drop as the school moves overhead.
