Underwater at Lima Rock North

Lima Rock North

Dive site

The northern face of Lima Rock is the more current-exposed aspect of Musandam's most celebrated dive site — a near-vertical limestone wall that drops from the surface to 40 m before shelving to sand at 55 m. Tidal exchange through the Strait of Hormuz generates surge and current that pile nutrients against the wall, sustaining vast schools of fusileers and anthias in the water column above dense soft coral gardens. Whale sharks are documented passing Lima Rock between October and March, and large hammerheads are occasionally encountered at depth in the cooler months. Spinner dolphins are permanently resident in the wider area and often investigate divers ascending the anchor line.
