Ras Lima
Musandam Peninsula · Oman
The exposed headland at Ras Lima channels deep oceanic water from the Strait of Hormuz directly onto a sloping reef, creating a seasonal superhighway for pelagic megafauna. Whale sharks cruise through in numbers from October to April, joined by scalloped hammerheads and occasional thresher sharks riding the thermocline. The shallower sections offer healthy hard-coral gardens rich in parrotfish and surgeonfish that provide context for understanding why apex predators concentrate here.
