Muscat Offshore Seamount
Muscat · Oman
A submerged pinnacle rising from 60 metres to within 18 metres of the surface roughly 15 kilometres offshore from Muscat, this seamount acts as a magnet for open-ocean pelagics that rarely approach the coast. Hammerhead sharks, silky sharks, and oceanic manta rays are the headline draws — the upwelling effect over the summit concentrates plankton and creates a mid-ocean oasis. Visibility frequently exceeds 30 metres and the blue-water column above the peak delivers the sensation of hovering in open ocean while anchored to structure.
