Loggerhead turtles use the Paros Channel as a feeding corridor, preying on jellyfish, sponges, and crustaceans along the rocky bottom. The Aegean hosts one of the Mediterranean's most significant loggerhead nesting populations, with females returning to nearby Zakynthos beaches. Encounters here typically involve resting individuals or leisurely mid-water cruising.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
