Banded sea kraits are a common and beloved sight at Ilot Maitre, their black and pale blue banded bodies undulating gracefully as they hunt moray eels and small fish in the reef's crevices. Unlike true sea snakes, sea kraits must return to land to digest, rest, and lay eggs, making them a fascinating bridge between marine and terrestrial ecosystems — their venom is extremely potent but their docile nature means encounters with divers are uniformly peaceful.
