Underwater at Emboodhoo Lagoon Turtles

Emboodhoo Lagoon Turtles

North Male Atoll · Maldives

The lagoon formed between Emboodhoo and Cocoa islands is a sheltered turtle nursery where green and hawksbill turtles rest, feed on seagrass, and shelter in coral heads with a reliability matched almost nowhere in the Maldives. The protected waters mean visibility is consistently good and currents are gentle enough for photographers to hover. Reef fish density is exceptional in the shallows: lionfish under coral ledges, moorish idols in loose schools, and the occasional passing reef shark from the outer channel.
