Roche Gaby
Nosy Iranja · Madagascar
Roche Gaby is the deep showpiece dive in the Nosy Iranja area, a seamount and rock formation that tops out at 20 metres and drops to 70 metres and beyond. The structure is swept by currents that concentrate pelagic life in extraordinary numbers — reef sharks, leopard sharks, large grouper, Napoleon wrasse, and passing eagle rays are standard encounters. The deeper sections require advanced certification and reliable buoyancy control. The canyon sections between 30 and 50 metres are filled with enormous gorgonian sea fans, some of the largest recorded in Madagascar's waters. Surface conditions can be choppy on the outer side, and current reading is essential before descending.
