Turtle Garden
Nosy Iranja · Madagascar
Turtle Garden sits on the sheltered southern side of Nosy Iranja Kely, the smaller of the two Iranja islands, and lives up to its name completely. Green turtles rest, feed, and swim through a broad coral garden of staghorn and table corals at depths accessible to open-water divers. The site is one of the calmest around the islands with minimal current and excellent visibility in the dry season. Leopard sharks rest on sandy patches between coral heads. Cleaning stations dot the reef and attract a steady procession of fish waiting their turn. The shallow topography and benign conditions make this the ideal introduction to Nosy Iranja for newer divers, and underwater photography of resting turtles is exceptional.
