Manta Point
Nusa Penida · Indonesia
Manta Point on the southwest coast of Nusa Penida is one of the most reliable manta ray cleaning stations in Southeast Asia. Reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) congregate year-round at a series of shallow cleaning stations between 5 and 18 m depth, where small cleaner wrasse service them in circuits. The site is exposed to Indian Ocean swell and current, so conditions can shift quickly — surface chop and downwellings are common. When conditions align the water turns a vivid blue and dozens of mantas stack up at the cleaning station simultaneously. Snorkelling is also popular here. Diving is best in the dry season when visibility peaks.
